課程概述

This course aims to bridge and to enlarge pillars of (bio)semiotics – Saussure, Peirce and Uexkull – in light of phenomenology and current neuropsychology. It explores concepts and exemplary models that serve to prompt creative ideas for our trade of perceiving, interpreting and inventing clues and evidence. By way of examining selected original writings, we expect not only to sharpen our skill of perceiving art phenomena, but also to deepen our understanding of the power of images and memories in working out various kinds of art. This course culminates in a re-visitation of certain art historians’ perspectives that already suggest the importance of strategy formation and certain cognitive benefits we may gain from reinventing clues, monuments and documents.

課程目標
This course guides students to reflect on the following issues: (1) how we can improve approaches to studying art, nature and culture; (2) how we can apply some semiotic and phenomenological thinking while working out tasks of all kinds.
課程要求
Students are required to (1) preview contents for each week; (2) participate rigorously in discussions; (3) lead discussions of certain texts.
